FORD C-MAX Front Suspension

Note: The notched ring with ABS ( antilock braking system ) is integrated into the wheel hub . Improper installation of wheel hub leads to a malfunction of the ABS .
The suspension of the front consists of two McPherson struts and two lower L -shaped arm fixed to the axle body to the front axle by means of two rings without maintenance.
The suspension arms are made :
Steel on early models of C- MAX and Grand C -MAX ( with the exception of diesel 1.6L Duratorq - TDCi ( DV ) ) ,aluminum on the C -MAX alloy diesel 1.6L Duratorq - TDCi ( DV ) engine.Subsequently, the C- MAX and Grand C -MAX will be no longer produced with suspension arms made of aluminum.
Note: It is not possible, maintenance, replace the ball joint separately arm (steel or aluminum ) . In maintenance , the complete suspension arm must be replaced .
Care must be taken to correct the position of mounting the suspension turret . To ensure proper alignment of the suspension turret mounts , springs and piston rods , the spring plates and supports suspension turret include orientation marks .

Compression struts
Depending on the engine, the vehicle can be equipped with compression links .
The compression rods are designed to keep the forces at low values in an accident and thereby ensure maximum safety for passengers .

The need for compression rods depends on the weight of the engine. This means for the C- MAX 2010.75 :
With the exception of the 1.6L Duratec -16V Ti -VCT (Sigma ), the vehicle is always equipped with compression rods .dynamic dampers

The dynamic damper is mainly constituted by a screw member on the counterweight suspended by means of a rubber binder and movable .
The counterweight absorbs much of the energy of vibration and thus contributes to a reduction in cabin noise .
Note: When installing the dynamic damper , it should be ensured that the metal counterweight does not come into contact with the hanger . Tighten the nut to the specified torque . For removal and installation , follow the instructions of the workshop documentation in force.

Impact of failures
A defective connection causes the rubber member and the counterweight suspension abut against the fixing bolts . Impact sound is clearly heard in the cockpit.
