Diagnosis and Testing
Inspection and Verification
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

  • Fuse(s).
  • Wiring harness.
  • Electrical connector(s).
  • Switch(es).
  • Battery.
  1. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  1. If the cause is not visually evident, verify the symptom and refer to the Sympton Chart.

Pinpoint Test
NOTE: Use a digital multimeter for all electrical measurements.

PINPOINT TEST A : THE IGNITION SWITCH IS INOPERATIVE
TEST CONDITIONSDETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS
A1: CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR

1
Remove the steering column shrouds.

2
Check the ignition switch electrical connector.

Is the ignition switch electrical connector clean and secure?
Yes
No
CLEAN and SECURE the ignition switch electrical connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
A2: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT SBP24A (VT/RD)

1
Disconnect Ignition Switch C2DC32.

Click to resize E0013056
2
Measure the voltage between the ignition switch C2DC32 Pin 4, circuit SBP24A (VT/RD), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
VERIFY the customers concern.
No
REPAIR the circuit SBP24A (VT/RD). TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST B : NO POWER IN ACC
TEST CONDITIONSDETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS
B1: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT SBP24A (VT/RD)

1
Disconnect Ignition Switch C2DC32.

Click to resize E0013056
2
Measure the voltage between the ignition switch C2DC32 Pin 4, circuit SBP24A (VT/RD), harness side and ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
REPAIR circuit CDC33A (VT/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit SBP24A (VT/RD). TEST the system for normal operation.

PINPOINT TEST C : NO POWER IN RUN
TEST CONDITIONSDETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS
C1: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT SBP24A (VT/RD)

1
Disconnect Ignition Switch C2DC32.
