ABS SYSTEM

Description and Operation
General
At launch, the Focus C-MAX will only be available with disc brakes, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA).
The installation locations of the brake booster and the brake master cylinder on the bulkhead is different for LHD and RHD versions.
Front brakes
Depending on the specification, different sizes of vented brake discs are installed.
  • 278 mm diameter
  • 300 mm diameter (not for use with R15 wheels)
Both versions are 25 mm thick. Conventional cast iron brake calipers are used; the brake caliper mountings are different for brake discs with diameters of 278 mm and 300 mm.
Rear brakes
The brake discs on the rear wheels have a diameter of 265 mm or 280 mm and are 11 mm thick.
When resetting a brake piston in the brake caliper, the piston needs to be turned using the standard brake piston resetting tool. The correct procedure is described in the relevant section of the workshop literature.
Brake calipers pre-filled with brake fluid are available in service. These calipers simplify the process of bleeding the brake system after installing a new brake caliper.
All vehicles are equipped with EBA which is part of the brake booster.
Vehicles with ABS only are equipped with the Teves MK70 system.
Vehicles with both ABS and traction control system (TCS) are equipped with the Teves MK60 system.

The electronic stability program is available as an option with ABS and TCS
