Description and Operation
PATS ( passive anti-theft device )
Vehicles without locking and / or keyless
PATS functionality is integrated in the GEM (generic electronic module). The transmitter / receiver is directly connected thereto .
After reading the code key ( position II ), an application corresponding identification is transmitted from GEM to the PCM ( engine control unit ) via the data bus HS- CAN (CAN network).
To increase security , an identification request is also sent by the PCM to ABS module ( antilock braking system ) .
When identification is successful, the PCM allows booting .
The starter relay is wired to the PCM and is controlled by the latter.
Relay fuel pump is wired with GEM .
The key has a transponder plastic . The programming key is available by coded access .
The screen of the instrument cluster displays faults.
Note: When replacing the GEM, a re-learning of the PATS key is required . Instructions on this subject are contained in the workshop documentation.
Vehicles with keyless entry
On this system , the PATS feature is built into the module locking system and / or keyless .
This system uses a passive key instead of the conventional key . Just as the driver's door key with him passive .
If the passive key is inside the cabin and if the ignition is on , the module locking system and / or keyless sends a request to the GEM module on MS -CAN. An identification request is then sent via the HS- CAN bus PCM or ABS module. Then start authorization is given .
Note: After replacing the module locking system and / or keyless start , proceed back to passive learning keys. Instructions on this subject are contained in the workshop documentation.
