GeneralThis vehicle implements an electric power steering .The electric power steering is integrated into the steering column. When the steering wheel is turned , an electric motor (motor power steering ) assists its movements. The rotation of the motor is taken directly from the steering shaft via a worm gear .The power steering pump becomes useless.Advantage: The electric power steering is only active when there is movement of the steering column. This reduces engine load and therefore fuel consumption .The electric power steering is mainly composed of the following:An electric power steering  motor reducer The  steering torque sensor PSC Module Overview of the operationWhen movement of the steering column , the latter is identified by the steering torque sensor . The signal of this sensor enables the module to calculate the steering assist force .Activates the motor with the corresponding current module. The rotation of the motor is taken directly from the steering shaft via a worm gear .

The PSC module has built-in diagnostics areas. In case of malfunction indicator lamp illuminates on the instrument cluster .According to the failing function , the steering isor maintainedlimited to a certain force ( somewhere around its value to a speed of 100 km / h) ortotally disabled.Instructions for the workshopNOTICE: In extreme cases , the engine of the electric power steering can exceed 85 ° C. Before maintenance operations , we must wait to start repairs on the electric power steering .Important Notes about operations on the directionWARNING: For maintenance operations that require separate column of the steering box , it is imperative to put the wheel in the center position and engage the steering lock ( refer to current maintenance documentation).Reason: The sensor of the steering torque in the electric power steering system is powered by a spiral spring . The length of the spring is limited to six rotations in total. If the steering column is offset from the center position, the coiled spring is pulled when the steering is fully actuated .One stop to another, there are about 2.6 rotations ( 1.3 from the central position of each side). The spiral spring is designed so that it allows the rotation of a total of six in the other abutment ( 3 from the center position , on each side) .Locking device ( new column)During the interview , a new column is always delivered with a new locking device tree (see current maintenance documentation). This device holds the steering column to the center position .WARNING: It must first be removed from the steering box just before mounting the steering column. During installation, make sure the steering column does not rotate . Column shall be filed blocked with the locking device further . Must be observed in this respect the instructions of the workshop documentation in force.Calibrating the central positionWhenever the battery is disconnected , you must recalibrate the central position of leadership. There are two possibilities for this :Automatically while driving.- Roll the vehicle at a minimum speed of 50 km / h for about a minute straight.Using the IDS ( Integrated Diagnostic System ) .Note: After the maintenance workshop , use the method via the IDS.Consequences of improper calibration of the central position :The driver does not denote first change. Only recall the steering wheel is not supported by the electric power steering while driving.Protection against overheatingThe PSC Module houses a temperature sensor:If the temperature does not exceed 65 ° C , the electric power steering works needed at full power.Between 65 and 85 ° C , the steering assistance is reduced continuously by its electric motor .Above 85 ° C , there is more support from the engine .Overheating can occur, for example when the direction is constantly operated a stop to the other while the vehicle is stopped . Under these conditions , the motor of the electric power steering is operated at full power. The intensity can then reach 78 A.Disabling the power steering when the ignition is offNote: The electric power steering is still active 70 seconds after the ignition is switched off ( power latch ) . During this time, do not disconnect the battery.
